About the Players Committee
The Players Committee (PC) began as a way to assist Hockey Director, Mike Craigen in matters related to adult-league hockey. Matters such as player placement, discipline, and organizing seasonal play and special activities (such as the all-star games) were delegated to the PC. The PC would report to Mike in all matters, and he would have the final decision-making authority.
With the departure of Mike, and the future of CoolSports league management in question, the PC has assumed all operational management and financial responsibility for keeping adult league hockey going at CoolSports. To that end, the necessary documents were prepared and submitted to formally create the KAHL non-profit 501(3)(c).
As of this writing, the KAHL PC consists of players across all divisions and experience levels. The PC meets regularly (at least monthly) in-person to discuss league-related issues. The mission of the PC is to help facilitate an atmosphere of fair and fun play, foster camaraderie, and strengthen the hockey community.
The PC makes an effort to be as fair as possible in all decisions affecting league play. Decision making is done by sub-committee voting, while trying to remain consistent, and avoiding conflicts of interest whenever possible. As an example, if a player is under disciplinary review for actions during a game, the sub-committee will not include other PC members who play in the offending player's division. The PC has tracked player issues and disciplinary actions dating back to its formation in January 2020.
